What JoVi Means
JoVi Border Collies is more than a name—it’s a reflection of our purpose, our family, and our vision for the breed.
The name “JoVi” comes from the first two letters of our daughters’ names, Journei and Violet, symbolizing the heart behind everything we do. But it also stands for something more:

In a world where expectations of the Border Collie vary widely, our vision is grounded in balance. We believe a Border Collie can do it all—excel in sport, shine in the show ring, and still be a calm, devoted companion in today’s active family homes. Their legendary drive and intelligence are real—but so is their loyalty, tenderness, and eagerness to connect.
At JoVi, we’re redefining what it means to live with this breed. We raise Border Collies who are as capable of herding sheep as they are of curling up with your kids after a long day. Let’s change the narrative—one JoVi pup at a time.
Meet Our Pack
We’re a family-based preservation breeder located in Northern Virginia, proudly serving the DMV area. With over 15 years in the region, we understand the pace—and pressure—of daily life here.
Our family includes myself, my husband, and our four children: David (25), Carmen (24), Violet (10), and Journei (6). Each of us plays a role in helping raise and connect with our dogs, and our multigenerational home environment teaches our Border Collies to engage positively with people of all ages. From grooming and play to downtime and snuggles, our dogs experience a wide range of daily interactions—shaping them into socially fluent, adaptable companions.
Their intuitive, affectionate nature reminds us daily to stay grounded and present. And just as they give to us, we pour our hearts into creating a nurturing environment where they can thrive. Sharing this rhythm of life with our dogs has made our family stronger, more connected, and filled with everyday joy.
Our Life, Unleashed
Life with Border Collies is anything but one-size-fits-all—and that’s exactly how we like it. Our family of six stays busy with everything from school and sports to festivals, errands, and weekend adventures. No matter the activity, our Border Collies are right there with us: joyful, attentive, and ready to join in.
Everyone in our household contributes to their care—feeding, brushing, training, and play are shared responsibilities that foster trust and connection. Our dogs take each interaction in stride, showing an incredible ability to adapt to different ages, personalities, and energy levels.
They’re more than dogs. They’re teammates, confidants, and companions in the moments that make up our day. Whether we’re teaching tricks like “orbit,” playing tag at the park, or winding down together in the evenings, our dogs help us live more intentionally—and more joyfully.

Our Why: The Heart Behind What We Do
Our breeding program was born from deep admiration for the Border Collie—a breed we cherish for its intelligence, versatility, and soulful presence. Our goal is to preserve and elevate these qualities through purposeful, ethical breeding, producing dogs who thrive in both structured activities and everyday family life.
We focus on six core pillars: temperament, health, genetics, intelligence, biddability, and work ethic. Every JoVi litter is carefully planned to uphold these traits, with a commitment to soundness in both mind and body.
We especially love partnering with active families—those who find joy in movement, exploration, and togetherness. Whether you're running trails, camping, biking, or dancing in the kitchen, Border Collies are at their best when they’re part of the adventure.
As part of our broader mission, we’re excited to be launching the Cherry Blossom Border Collie Chapter—a DMV-based initiative to build community, provide education, and celebrate this extraordinary breed. Details coming soon.
